Man killed in hit and run Friday

An auto-pedestrian crash at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 near mile marker 877 in Orange County resulted in a fatality.

Justice of the Peace Judge Rodney Price pronounced Chad Eugene Shields, 41, of Orange dead at the crash scene on Friday.

There is very limited information on this crash; however, Troopers were able to ascertain that a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of Interstate 10 near mile marker 877.  Troopers suspect that the pedestrian may have been lying in the inside lane or had fallen down in the inside lane of Interstate 10 when he was run over and killed by the unidentified vehicle.  The vehicle that ran over the pedestrian did not stop, according to a press release.

The Texas Department of Public Safety did not positively identify the victim until Monday morning.

Troopers continue to investigate this fatality; however, there was no physical evidence recovered at the crash scene.  The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help to locate the vehicle that ran over and killed Chad Shields.  If you were traveling in the area of Interstate 10 near mile marker 877 around 12:40am on Friday, October 9, 2015 and noticed anything suspicious, please contact the Texas Department of Public Safety at 936-699-7340.  This telephone is answered around the clock and messages should be left for Trooper Philip Brady.
