SPLENDORA — With their running game clicking on all cylinders, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears went on the road and totally dismantled the Splendora Wildcats 56-7 to pick up their first District 10-4A Division I win of the season.

The Battlin’ Bears (2-4, 1-1) poured out 539 total yards, all of it via a punishing ground game, to blow the Wildcats (3-3, 0-2) out of the water.

The Bears had three players go over the 100-yard mark in the blowout victory.

Fullback J’Lon Douglas pounded his way to 145 yards on 15 carries and had a touchdown. Tailback Chris Winters rocked the Wildcats for 127 yards on just eight totes and scored two TDs. David Webb darted for 115 yards on six carries and a TD.

Sam King added 87 yards on six carries and scored on three of those touches while Kayne Williams added 69 yards on five carries.

The Bears averaged almost 12 yards a carry on 46 total totes and only attempted one pass.

The Bear defense, meanwhile, held the Wildcats to 250 total yards, 150 in the air and 100 on the ground.

The Bears jumped out of the gates with flurries that Splendora never would recover from.

King torched the Wildcats with scoring runs of 15 and 25 yards to open up the first quarter. Winters added a five-yard touchdown dart to give the Bears a 21-0 edge at the end of the first quarter.

The Wildcats tried to answer when quarterback Noah Dain connected with Dustyn Millican on a 82-yard scoring toss to trim it to 21-7.

Winters and the Bear offensive line would have none of that though as the Bears’ speed back broke loose on a 87-yard touchdown sprint to the end zone to push the LC-M lead to 28-7 at intermission.

The LC-M onslaught continued in the second half.

King burned the Wildcat defense with a 32-yard touchdown gallop. Webb added to the Splendora misery by escaping for a 49-yard touchdown run.

The Bears added two more scores in the final quarter. Douglas broke free for a 25-yard TD gallop and Paul Joubert closed out the night with a one-yard touchdown.

Dain completed 8-of-20 passes for 146 yards. Brandon Bennett led Splendora receiver with four catches for 46 yards. John Lee led the absent Wildcat rushing attack with 38 yards on 16 tough carries.

In other 10-4A Division I action Friday night, Huffman (2-3, 1-0) defeated Silsbee (4-2, 1-1) 50-47 while Jasper (3-3, 2-0) hammered Cleveland 31-7.

The Bears will play host to Cleveland for Homecoming next week.
