Special to The Leader

A crowd of nearly 200 attended the fundraiser for the upcoming Special Angels Rodeo at the VFW Hall in Orange this past Wednesday.

Britt Godwin and David Slaughter provided their unique brand of country music while those in attendance dined on fried catfish and grilled chicken with all the trimmings provided by Robert’s Steakhouse and Market.

Chad Jenkins served as auctioneer for the 71 live auction items. In addition to providing some generous funds, the question was answered about which is more popular in Orange; Blue Bell Ice Cream, or pro football.

A football autographed by Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak sold for $550, a Denver Bronco helmet signed by Von Miller sold for $725. Those items were outsold by a K2 cooler of Blue Bell Ice Cream donated by Sabine River Ford. The brought the high bid of the night, $825.

The second annual Special Angels Rodeo will be held on November 14 at the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Arena. For information about the rodeo and how you may be able to help, check out their Facebook page or contact Jo Harris at Farmer’s Mercantile.
