With one phase complete, the next part of the project is set to begin.

A portion of Old Highway 90 between Vidor and Rose City has been closed earlier this week as work is set to begin on demolishing a large box culvert drainage bridge and the demolition and replacement of two other bridges.

Work crews have already closed a large section of Old Highway 90 to through-traffic and will begin demolition by the end of the month. A box culvert drainage bridge is first on the list, as it will be demolished and replaced.

The second bridge to be demolished is located in Rose City, between Canary Street and Mockingbird Street.

Motorists needing to reach destinations in Rose City will be forced to use many of the connecting roads, which run north to south between the Interstate 10 East service road and Old Highway 90.

The third bridge, which is located near City Hall in Rose City, will be replaced following the demolition and construction of the first two, according to information from ALCO, the project contractor.

A similar project took place earlier this year on a section of Old Highway 90 between South Main Street and Sargent Street. The entire section of road was resurfaced with a new turning lane created for traffic in front of Vidor Elementary, as well as an additional lane traveling east and turning right into the campus for early morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up of students.

A $1.3 million grant from the Texas General Land Office from Hurricane Ike 2.1 Funding is being used to fund this project. The road closure is expected to last approximately six months.
