Orange resident injured in two car collision in Rose City

ROSE CITY — A Ford SUV was traveling westbound in the center lane of Interstate 10 near Rose City.  The driver of the Ford noticed that a truck tractor semi-trailer was quickly approaching his vehicle and moved into the inside traffic lane.  Even though the Ford moved into the inside traffic lane, the 18-wheeler still struck the Ford in the rear panel.  The impact of the collision caused the 18-wheeler to veer to the left striking the inside guardrail.  The truck tractor semi-trailer continued for several feet before colliding with a Chevrolet passenger vehicle in the inside lane of Interstate 10.
The driver of the Freightliner, Walter Helbert, 63, of Pennsylvania, was not injured.  The driver of the Ford SUV, Orlando Guerreo, 48, of Rio Grand City, and his three passengers were not injured in the crash.  The driver of the Chevrolet passenger vehicle was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont.  Troopers are in route to the hospital to confirm his identity and determine the extent if his injuries.
Walter Helbert was issued a traffic citation for Failure to Control Speed.
The driver of the Chevrolet passenger vehicle, Lyndon Johnson, 51, of Orange, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with a broken hip.
