Lady Bobcats end LC-M’s district dominance

LITTLE CYPRESS — Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s dominance in District 24-4A volleyball came to a crashing halt at the hands of Orangefield at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The Lady Bears, who went undefeated through 24-4A play last year and had not lost a district match since their 20-4A days in 2013, watched as the Lady Bobcats walked away with a huge win.

The Lady Bobcats controlled the match the whole way and won it in three straight games 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 as both teams now stand 1-1 in 24-4A play.

Sabryn Crain led the Lady Bobcat attack with 10 kills to go along with eight service points and four aces.

Julianne McManus chimed in with eight kills to go along with seven points.

Alexis Cox led the Lady Bears with seven kills and added five points and an ace. Maddie Frey and Mckenzie Hearn added six kills apiece for the Lady Bears.

Game One was tight as the score was tied at 15-15. However, the Lady Bobcats were able to pull away as they tallied 10 of the next 13 points, including five of the last six.

Once again, Game Two was tight until late. LC-M actually led 16-15. The Lady Bobcats took control by scoring five straight points to go up 20-16. The Lady Bears scrambled back to get as close as 22-20 but the Lady Bobcats closed it with the final three points.

The Lady Bobcats darted out to a 9-4 cushion in Game Three but the Lady Bears stormed back to tie it at 11-11.

Orangefield scored nine of the next 14 points to snag a 20-16 edge. LC-M got as close as 22-19 but the Lady Bobcats closed it out by taking three of the next four points.

Ashlyn Turley notched nine points, four kills and an ace for the Lady Bobcats. Kalyn Nelson contributed nine points, three kills and an ace. Rebekah Newell had four points and a kill and Anna Vanpelt had two points, a kill and an ace.

Jordyn West had seven points for the Lady Bears. Katyln Avery posted four points and three kills. Madison Taggert notched four kills and three aces.

The Lady Bears will visit Hamshire-Fannett in 24-4A play Friday while the Lady Bobcats entertain Silsbee.
