Bear, Cardinal CC teams fare well

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Bridge City cross country teams competed well in different meets over the weekend.

The LC-M boys and Lady Bears both notched first-place team finishes at the Nederland Cross Country Meet Saturday.

LC-M’s Eli Peveto won his second straight event. Peveto, who won his division at the Bridge City Cardinal Classic last week, won again Saturday by covering the three-mile course in 17 minutes. He was followed by Bear teammates Rayce Piper (fourth), Blake Kresser (seventh), Cameron Blanchard (15th), Jackson Baeza (21st), JC Copley (22nd) and Brad Couture (25th).

Olivia Keltz paced the first-place Lady Bears with a third-place finish followed by teammates Kalon Gillis (eighth), Rylee Locke (15th), Megan McKinley (18th) and Alora Jones (22nd).

Bridge City participated in a Region III preview meet held in Huntsville as the boys competed against 23 teams and the girls participated against 30 teams. The Cardinal boys placed a solid fourth overall and the girls ninth.

Graydon Glover led the Cardinal boys, placing 12th with a time of 18:29.1. He was followed by teammates Ruben Valencia (13th, 18:34.8), Kyler Morse (25th, 18:59.2), Isaiah Maldanado (55th, 19:51.9), Nolan Moore (57th, 19:56.7) and Edward Doan (63rd, 20:02.6).

Hunter Hammontree of Elysain Fields won the race with a 17:04.7.

For the Lady Cardinals, Caitlin Denison was 22nd with a time of 13:45.7 followed by teammates Brittany Fonville (33rd, 14:08.3), Katy Torbett (86th, 15:20.7), Izzy Brooks (150th, 16:23.5) and Valeria Martinez (159th, 16:30.7.)

Fairfield’s Morgan Coleman won the event with a time of 12:17.1.
