WEST ORANGE – There was no place to run and no place to hide for the Jasper Bulldogs Friday night at Hooks Stadium as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs cruised to a 53-0 victory in non-district action.
The Mustangs limited the Bulldogs to just 46 yards of total offense as Jasper simply could not get anything going.

WO-S (3-0) dominated early and cruised to a 27-0 halftime advantage.
Jasper (1-2) was playing without the services of senior quarterback Quentin Williams and it showed as the Mustang “Chain Gang Defense” pinned their ears back and totally dismantled the Bulldog offensive charges.

The Mustangs finished with 315 total yards and did not have to go very far on any of their touchdown drives.

“The kids gave a great effort tonight,” said Mustang coach Cornel Thompson. “We’ve got 20 juniors that are contributing in a big way. We’re still going through a few growing pains here and there but we’re excited about their performance. We beat a Jasper team tonight that will probably compete for their district title again, you can bet on that.”

Mustang tailback Jeremiah Shaw led the Mustang ground game with 98 yards on 11 carries as 10 runners toted the ball on the night. Melech Edwards ran for 43 yards on 10 carries and scored twice. Quarterback Jack Dallas completed 9-of-15 passes for 91 yards.
Reese Durand starting at quarterback for the Bulldogs and it was tough sledding. He went 1-for-5 for 13 yards and an interception and had 14 carries for minus 11 yards. Jasper back Decorrian Holmes led the Bulldogs with 59 yards on 16 carries.

“Jasper really missed the Williams kid tonight and it showed,” said Thompson. “He is such a sparkplug. It kinda snowballed on them (Jasper) early and our kids really took advantage of it.”
The Mustangs wasted no time getting on the board, zipping 55 yards in
just six plays to hit paydirt.
The big play of the series came on a 38-yard gallop around the right end by Jeremiah Shaw to the Bulldog 17. Four plays later, Keion Hancock scored from four yards out around the right side. Dallas ran in the two-point conversion to give WO-S a 8-0 edge with 9:48 left in the first quarter.
WO-S struck quickly again thanks to a big Bulldog turnover.
Mustang defensive back Aric Cormier picked off a Durand pass at the Mustang 49 and brought it all the way back to the Bulldog 5. Hancock scored again on the next play, going five yards off right tackle for the score. The point-after pass failed but the Mustangs held a 14-0 edge with 7:05 left in the first.
Dallas connected with receiver KJ Miller on a 27-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-three but it was called back due to illegal procedure with 2:44 in the first quarter.
That did not phase WO-S. On the next play, Dallas and Miller hooked up again on a 17-yarder on fourth-and-8 to the Jasper 15. Six plays later Shaw scored from a yard out on the first play of the second quarter over left tackle and kicker Ryan Baham-Heisser nailed the point-after for a 21-0 edge.
The Mustangs went 69 yards in 10 plays to rack up another score in the second quarter, eating 4:17 off the clock.
Dallas connected with Shaw on a nice 15-yard screen pass on the series. Melech Edwards had a big 11-yard run to the Bulldog 5 and he capped it by going five yards off right tackle for the score. The point-after kick failed as WO-S led 27-0 with 3:21 in the half.
The Mustangs limited the Bulldogs to a mere 39 yards and three first downs in the first half with two of the first downs coming on penalties. Holmes had 32 yards on 11 carries.
WO-S, despite facing a short field for most of the first 24 minutes, finished with 192 total yards in the half.
Dallas completed 7-of-11 passes for 83 yards while Shaw had five totes for 51 yards.
The Mustangs put together a eight-play, 62-yard scoring jaunt late in the third quarter, 54 of it via the ground game. Shaw broke loose for a 22-yard scamper on the march and Edwards capped it off with a quick dart around the right side from nine yards out to put WO-S up 33-0 with 0:42 left in the third.
It kept snowballing for the Bulldogs as a bad snap soared over punter Mack McMillan’s head and the Mustangs wrapped him up at the Bulldog 3.
Two plays later Tokeba bolted into the end zone from a yard out, pushing the lead to 40-0 with 10:05 remaining.
Durand coughed up a fumble to the Mustangs at the Bulldog 26 with 9:16 left and the Mustangs scored four plays later on a Malacci Hodge three-yard touchdown dart.
Backup Mustang tailback Quinton Chargois capped the night’s scoring with a five-yard touchdown jaunt with 2:18 remaining.

The Mustangs will hit the road next week as they travel to Silsbee to face the surging Tigers.
