VIDOR – There is little doubt that the Vidor Pirates found themselves getting back on track after they went on the road and dealt a solid Jasper team a 42-21 loss last week.

Everything was clicking in high gear for the Pirates (1-1) after they suffered a tough season-opening 19-7 loss to Bay High from Florida.

The Pirates dug themselves an early hole against the Bulldogs as Jasper scored the game’s first 14 points. However, the Pirates got their vaunted running game going and the Bulldogs had no answer for it.

Vidor rushed for 547 yards and six touchdowns without even attempting a pass.

The Pirates will be looking for the same this Friday as they head to Channelview to take on a Falcons team that has gotten off to a quick 2-0 start after defeating Dayton 57-21 and South Houston 56-15.

Pirate tailback Haylon Leckelt shredded Jasper for 215 yards and two TDs last week. Fullback Blake Rowe had 135 yards and a pair of TDs and quarterback Kolby Humble zipped for 132 yards and two TDs.

Leckelt already has 332 yards for the season while Rowe has 198 yards and three TDs and Humble 141 yards.

The Falcons, meanwhile, return 14 starters off last season’s 7-3 unit. After many years of struggling, the Falcons have found their groove for coach Averion Hurts.

The Falcons are led by quarterback Jalen Hurts who passed for 2,552 yards and 21 TDs and rushed for 948 yards and 19 TDs last season. He has a go-to receiver in Etterious Giles, who hauled in 47 catches for 891 yards and six TDs.

The Falcons came to Vidor last season and edged out the Pirates 44-41. The two teams combined for over 900 total yards. Hurts passed for 231 yards and ra for 59. Rowe and Leckelt combined for 221 yards with Rowe going for 155 yards on 18 carries.
