LITTLE CYPRESS – Then Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears will hit the road Friday as they will be seeking their first win of the season when they take on the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots at Baytown’s Stallworth Stadium.

The Bears (0-2) 28-7 loss to Barbers Hill last week is somewhat deceiving after LC-M shot itself in the foot with five turnovers.

Trailing 13-7 midway through the fourth quarter, the Bears were looking to score and go ahead of the Eagles only to see an interception near the Eagles’ goal line. Barbers Hill running back Jacob Rogers then scored on a 94-yard run with 5:14 remaining to help seal it for the Eagles.

The Bears actually outgained the Eagles 364-265.

LC-M junior quarterback Beau Bickham has completed 11-of-21 passes for 244 yards and two TDs.

Tailback Chris Winters has 132 yards on 23 carries while fullback J’Lon Douglas has 107 yards on 23 totes. Receiver Ronald Guillory hauled in three catches for 100 yards against the Eagles.

The Patriots, meanwhile, will be playing their third straight game at Stallworth Stadium.

GCM defeated Tomball Memorial 14-12 in their opener and fell to Baytown Sterling 24-18 last week.

The Patriots welcome back five starters on offense and seven on defense from a squad that went 4-6 last year, 3-4 in District 22-5A play.

The Patriots have a double threat in quarterback Myles Duke and running back Stephen Adams.

Adams rushed for 1,650 yards and 15 TDs on 230 carries last season while Dukes passed for 875 yards and seven TDs.

The Bears took down the Patriots 34-28 last season at Battlin’ Bear Stadium. Bear tailback Robert Green rushed for 167 yards on 30 carries while Adams had 198 yards on 26 totes for the Patriots.
