Lady Mustangs swat Kountze

WEST ORANGE – Behind the heavy hitting of senior Aaliyah Teel, the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs strolled past the Kountze Lady Lions 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 in non-district action at Mustang Gym Tuesday night.

Teel dominated at the net as the two-time All-District selection belted out 21 kills and added 10 service points and three aces.

The Lady Mustangs were finally able to break away in Game One. The squads were tied at 15 but WO-S tallied 10 of the next 13 points to pull away.

The Lady Mustangs trailed by as much as 8-2 but rallied back strong. They went on a 14-3 tear and then held off a late Kountze surge.

WO-S dominated Game Three, jumping out to a 8-0 advantage and then held the Lady Lions at bay.

Ja’Tayiah Vital had six kills for the Lady Mustangs. Elisha Colbert had four kills while Elecia Barlow and Shatyra Allen had three apiece.

Olivia Basinger set up the offense well and finished with 17 service points. Barlow had seven points and an ace. Taylor Colbert contributed four points and an ace and Natiyah Brumfield posted two points and an ace.

Camry Clemons paced the Lady Lions with eight kills and had four points and an ace. Kiara Cole had five kills, three points and an ace and Alexis Orsot added three kills. Adrianna Haynes led Kountze with 12 points and two aces.

The Lady Mustangs return to action Friday when they visit Beaumont Central.

In non-district action last Friday, the Lady Mustangs hammered out a 25-19, 25-17, 25-13 victory over Hemphill.

Aaliyah Teel led the way with 15 points, 16 digs and two blocks.

Ja’tayjah Vital had five kills and a block. Elicia Barlow contributed nine digs and five kills.

Phillis Jones collected 18 digs. Taylor Colbert had 15 digs. Olivia Basinger set up the offense well with 20 assists and eight digs while Madison Neal added five digs and four kills.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats handed the Anahuac Panthers a 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 defeat in non-district play.

The top Lady Bobcat hitters were Sabryn Crain and Julianne McManus. Ashley Turley led in assists. Rebekah Newell was the top blocker and Evie Arceneaux was credited with good passing.

The Deweyville Lady Pirates swept the Vidor Lady Pirates 25-8, 25-16, 25-21 in non-district play.

Kennidee Willis led the Lady Pirates with 16 kills, 12 digs, three aces and two blocks.

Shaylin Dupuy posted 17 assists and two aces. Gabby Dupuy notched 11 digs and two aces. Bre Sims claimed seven digs and five aces. Mallory Hand had four aces, three blocks and two kills and Brooke Smith contributed three kills.

The Lady Pirates picked up the consolation trophy in the Hamshire-Fannett Tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Pirates fell to Beaumont Ozen in the first round but fought their way back to earn the trophy.

They came back and won consolation on Saturday, defeating West Hardin 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, Beaumont Kelly 19-25, 25-20, 25-16, and Silsbee 25-20, 28-26.

Stats for all three matches combined had Shaylin Dupuy with 83 assists and 7 aces, Kennidee Willis had 64 kills, 44 digs, and 11 aces, Gabby Dupuy had 37 digs.

LC-M and Bridge City competed in the Dickinson Tournament over the weekend. LC-M fell to both PN-G and Manvel in straight sets while Bridge City defeated Pasadena Sam Rayburn and fell to Texas City.

LC-M did take down Port Arthur Memorial 25-18, 25-15, 25-15 in a non-district matchup while Bridge City defeated Beaumont Central 3-1.
