B & B Auction Celebrates 44 Years

B & B Auction celebrates its 44th Anniversary this month. Founded in 1971 by Bert and Frankie Bertrand, B & B Auction continues to serve the community today, and has become a destination for visitors from near and far.

This family owned-business brings antiques and collectables from all over the world here to Orange to share with collectors, decorators, and homeowners alike.

Three generations of the Bertrand family are currently involved in B & B Auction. Roger Bertrand, son of owner Frankie Bertrand, believes this is a big part of what makes their business special.

The best part of being a family-owned business is “being able to meet such a wide array of interesting people and work side by side with family and doing something that you really enjoy,” Bertrand said.

Many unique items have passed through B & B Auction over the years, but one sale in particular stands out in Bertrand’s mind.

“Considering the vast variety of items we’ve sold over the last 44 years, it’s hard to pinpoint one item, but the most interesting sale we’ve conducted was the three night auction for the estate of Marge Paul, Bertrand said. “We sold antiques, hummel figurines, lead toy soldiers, cut glass, milk glass, vintage Christmas decorations, household items, yard accessories and much more.”

Although it has been three years since B & B Auction has actually held auctions, Bertrand assures that their prices are comparable to, if not better than, what they have been in the past.

“A lot of things are selling cheaper than they were at the auctions,” Bertrand said.

In addition to great prices, B & B Auction also hosts an improved selection of stock items.

“We’re getting a lot of items that we weren’t able to get when we were doing auctions,” Bertrand said.

Patrons of B & B Auction never know what they might find, but can expect items such as wardrobes, dressers, chests, beds, bedside cabinets, dining tables, chairs, sideboards, drop-leaf tables, draw leaf tables, display cabinets, corner cabinets, drinks cabinets, washstands, hall trees, kitchen cabinets, bureau bookcases, console tables, center tables, sewing machines, blanket boxes, sewing cabinets, tea trolleys, clocks, scales, bookcases, gates, mirrors, pictures, tools, flow blue pottery, Staffordshire dogs, Bibles, cut glass, dinnerware sets, cake sets, dresser sets, lamps, telephone benches, monk benches, étagères, bureaus, glassware, fire screens, pianos and more.

Even as the Bertrand family celebrates another successful year, they are making big plans for the future of their business.

“We hope to build a very large wholesale and retail business for years to come,” Bertrand said.

Bertrand is very grateful for the people who support B & B Auction.

“I would like to thank each and every customer and employee that has ever been associated with B & B Auction over the years,” Bertrand said.
