Whole Foods is set to open its new store in Detroit with a daylong celebration.
The festivities scheduled for Wednesday include performances by a bagpipe player, marching band and string quartet as well as remarks from U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Mayor Dave Bing and others.
The Austin, Texas-based chain's newest store will help fill a grocery void in the area. Detroiters long have complained about not having enough places to buy fresh fruit, vegetables and produce.
It's located in the city's Midtown neighborhood.
