HOUSTON — An off-duty Harris County sheriff's deputy has been killed in a traffic accident that's led to another driver charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Houston police say a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Andres Munos-Munos allegedly ran a red light and hit Sgt. Dwayne Polk's personal truck.
The 47-year-old deputy died at the scene early Sunday. Polk was in uniform and officials believe he was driving home following an off-duty job.
Munos-Munos appeared in court Monday and was ordered held without bond. Details weren't immediately available on an attorney for Munos-Munos, who suffered minor injuries in the wreck.
Polk had been with the sheriff's office for 16 years.
