WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Authorities in North Texas say a man was fatally shot during a party at a motel room that drew more than a dozen people.

Waxahachie (wahks-uh-HA'-chee) Police Chief Chuck Edge told The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/ZUyNPv ) that 21-year-old Andrew Riley Kindred was arrested Friday morning about 50 miles away in Gun Barrel City.

Edge says Kindred was among some 15 people who gathered at the Waxahachie motel Thursday night south of Dallas. Witnesses said Kindred had brought a firearm to the party and several people were playing with it. The gun discharged at some point, killing 22-year-old Aaron Michael Garcia.

Edge says investigators are trying to determine if the shooting was accidental or intentional.

He says it's become increasingly popular for people to rent motel rooms to hold parties.
