Ex-Texas teacher indicted, allegedly bully hit

SAN ANTONIO — A former South Texas kindergarten teacher who allegedly encouraged students to hit a boy accused of being a bully has been indicted.

Prosecutors in Bexar (bayr) County on Tuesday announced Cynthia Ambrose has been charged with official oppression. Ambrose was working in San Antonio for the Judson Independent School District at the time of the May incident.

Investigators say Ambrose urged several students to line up and hit the 6-year-old boy. The parents of the boy, who wasn't hurt, dispute allegations that he was a bully. Another teacher later reported the incident.

Official oppression is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

Ambrose has apologized for the incident. She's no longer with the school district and couldn't immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
