Orange Savings Bank donates $9K for scholarships

ORANGE —

Being good community partners will help local students continue their college education.

Orange Savings Bank presented checks to Lamar State College-Orange and Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Wednesday, Dec. 5, to be used for scholarship funds for each school.

Orange Savings Bank President, Stephen Lee announced the gift of $9,000 to Lamar State College. Both the Orange and Port Arthur Scholarship funds will receive half of the gift.

“Education is the foundation of being successful in life. I feel fortunate to have the Lamar Campus in our community,” Lee said in a press release. “It offers excellent opportunities for both the new high school graduates and continuing education for others.”

Officials with Lamar State College-Orange were very pleased with the generous nature of the local financial institution.

“I am very pleased that Orange Savings Bank has donated $4,500 to fund a scholarship for a deserving student at Lamar State College-Orange,” said Dr. Michael Shahan, president of LSC-O. “This gift will cover the entire cost of tuition and fees for one student during the 2013-2014 academic year. The generosity of Orange Savings Bank underscores their commitment to our community and their willingness to invest in a better future for our region.”
