Free concert at Riverfront Pavilion on Saturday

ORANGE — Put on your dancing shoes and head down to the river this Saturday afternoon.

The Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau presents Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band in concert at the Orange Riverfront Pavilion in downtown Orange on Saturday, Oct. 26. Admission to the event is free.

The public is welcome to arrive starting at 4 p.m. to the pavilion grounds, which are located adjacent to Front Street and Fifth Street in downtown. Cajun Harmony will open the show at 5 p.m., followed by Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band at 7 p.m.

“We want to provide the community with a fun event, and to promote tourism into Orange at the same time,” said Taylor Warner of the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Keith Frank and his band are very popular in the Zydeco world, and we have already received calls from people in Louisiana and as far away as Houston. It should be a lot of fun for everyone on Saturday.”

Frank, a native of Soileau, La., continues to tour in support of his 2012 release, “Follow the Leader,” a double disc release featuring a disc of contemporary Zydeco music, and a second disc “featuring traditional Zydeco with songs sung in Creole French,” according to his website.

Frank is a natural performer and the Zydeco music is part of his heritage. He is the oldest son of a family which can trace its musical lineage to the 1860s, according to his biography. His style of Zydeco combines the traditional sounds of the style with the contemporary stylings of rhythm and blues, soul, reggae and more.

Warner said the public is welcome to bring coolers, but animals are not permitted. Guests may also bring blankets and lawn chairs, and a large concrete dance floor is located directly in front of the stage for the dancers in attendance.

There will also be a vendor selling barbecue, as well as a snow cone vendor, and a small car show will also be taking place on Fifth Street, according to Warner.

“The pavilion is a great place to come see a show,” Warner added. “This is another quality of life event for area residents, and it is just one of many events we are scheduling at the pavilion.”
