Evening with Thomas Jefferson

“An Evening with Thomas Jefferson on the American Presidency” will feature historical scholar Bill Barker, acclaimed as the nation’s best Jefferson interpreter, from 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Dr. Richard L. Price Auditorium of the John Gray Library at Lamar University, and a student session at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Landes Auditorium of the Galloway Business Building. Faith Kidz

Faith Kidz will meet from 5:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Faith United Methodist Church, 8608 MLK Jr. Drive in Orange.

 

Gem and Mineral Club

The Pine Country Gem and Mineral Club, 110 N. Zavalla St. in Jasper, Texas, will meet from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18. Fellowship begins at 6:30 p.m. with food and coffee and beverages. Visitors are welcome.

 

Barbecue fundraiser

The Fraternal Order of Eagles, located at 803 N. 28th St. in Orange, will hold a barbecue lunch event from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18. The meal includes brisket, link, baked beans, potato salad, bread, cookie and trimmings. Cost is $8 per plate. Walk-ins welcome and delivery is available. Orders are accepted on Tuesday, Oct. 16; Wednesday, Oct. 17; and before 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, by calling 409-779-7793.

 

Vendors needed

The Orange County Livestock Show is looking for non-food vendors on Saturday, Oct. 20. Call Jennifer McConnell at 409-746-9727 for info.

 

Harold Leigh benefit

A benefit will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, to help the children of Harold Leigh, who died from severe brain injury following an automobile collision. Events include a fun run, auction with fabulous prizes, raffles, shirts, bracelets, food and more.

 

Faith Kidz

Faith Kidz group of Faith United Methodist Church, 8608 MLK Jr. Drive in Orange, will visit the residents of Sabine House on a field trip on Oct. 24. Kidz members are encouraged to wear their costumes.
