Dead roaches, mold lead to demerits

ORANGEFIELD — The Orange County Health Code Inspector found dead roaches, 81 expired items on the shelves and mold on the slushie machine during an inspection at The Country Store located at 6373 FM 1442 in Orangefield. The business received an 86 out of a possible 100. Other violations found during the inspection included the need for name and address on all bags of ice sold and heavy dust on the ceiling of the walk-in cooler.

Other scores include:

• McDonald’s #7018 located at 755 Texas Ave. in Bridge City. Score: 96. Demerits are for an employee with artificial nails and personal drink/food was found inside reach-in cooler.

• Dollar General #9124 located at 11776 Hwy. 62 North in Mauriceville. Score: 96. Demerits are for several expired items on the shelves.

• Express Mart #21 located at 20871 Hwy. 62 South in Orange. Score: 92. Demerits are for dates needed on all foods in reach-in cooler and several expired items on the shelves.

• Hushpuppy’s Seafood located at 1202 North Main Street in Vidor. Score: 86. Demerits are for towels need at the hand washing sink, several flies, hushpuppies and friend shrimp at improper temperatures, and area around the fryers in need of being cleaned.

• Sonic Drive Inn located at 340 North Main Street in Vidor. Score: 94. Demerits are for pipes in need of repair and areas and equipment in need of being cleaned.

• Peggy’s on the Bayou located at 2682 East Roundbunch Road in Orange. Score: 97. Demerits are for shrimp sitting inside the hand washing sink. It is noted on the report that the owner removed the food.

Several area schools recently inspected by the Orange County Health Inspector received perfect scores of 100.

The schools are:

• Mauriceville Elementary located at 20040 Hwy. 1130 in Mauriceville.

• Little Cypress High School located at 7565 North Hwy. 87 in Orange.

• Vidor Middle School located at 2500 Hwy. 12 in Vidor.

• North Early Learning located at 801 Cordrey in Orange.

• Little Cypress Intermediate located at 2300 Allie Payne Road in Orange.

• Orangefield Elementary located at 10288 Hwy. 105 in Orangefield.

• Bridge City High School located at 2690 Texas Ave. in Bridge City.
