Anayat House to throw Mardi Gras themed gumbo fest

BEAUMONT — Get into the Mardi Gras spirit with Gumbo Fest, a feast of a fundraiser benefiting Anayat House, a local nonprofit that serves as a medical hospitality house. The entire community is invited to attend this family friendly event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27. Stop by after church or just round up your family and friends for a laid back lunch of steaming, fresh, homemade gumbo and sides. And what better way to enjoy gumbo than with local zydeco band Jerry & the Cajun Friends setting the tone.

The Cajun-themed event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 9505 College St. in Beaumont. Ticket prices are as follows: $10 for adults, $5 for children, $8 for King Cakes and $12 for quarts of frozen gumbo to go. Whether you stick around to eat and dance or you just come by to get your quart of gumbo to go, Gumbo Fest will be an afternoon of food, family, festiveness and fun. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 951 and H.E.B., all Gumbo Fest proceeds benefit Anayat House.

With only two major fundraisers a year, Anayat House depends on the success of Gumbo Fest to help with operating costs for the year. This year’s fundraiser is especially important as Anayat House is moving to a new, larger facility this summer, and will be serving more residents.

Anayat House, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing overnight accommodations for family members of patients at local Beaumont hospitals, especially those pa tients in intensive care units, parents with newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit and individuals with out-patient service needs. The mission is to provide affordable accommodations in a safe and restful family setting to outpatients or to friends and family members of patients using local medical facilities.
