Work begins on Vidor's Concord Road

VIDOR — Residents of Concord Road in Vidor may be willing to have their driving routines disrupted this week as the much needed road work begins.

Work crews with the City of Vidor Street Department began working on Concord Road Monday to make much needed repairs to the road base and surface. The street, which regularly has a high traffic count, has been in need of repairs for many years but lack of funds in the city budget have kept this road, along with many others, on the “wish list” instead of the repair list.

“We are able to do this repair work because of our partnership with Orange County,” said Mike Kunst, Vidor city manager. “This is the first time Vidor and Orange County have done something like this in a couple of years. This road is highly traveled and it really needs to be repaired.”

Kunst said work crews will be making repairs to the road all week, weather permitting, and have already begun putting down new base material.

“We are putting a lot of base down because there is so much traffic on this road, and it’s a better base material than we could have used,” Kunst added.

Although Kunst was happy to be able to begin working on at least one street of the many in need of repair, he urged caution would be exercised before announcing any further street repairs and work.

“We’re being cautious because of the amount of base material we need for Concord,” he explained. “We’ll see what kind of funds we have left after we finish Concord and then we’ll know what else, if anything, we can do. We’ll be a little better prepared next year.”
