New time for Orange African American Museum membership meetings

ORANGE — The members of the Orange African American Museum will now meet at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month starting June 11, 2013.

“We have had members tell us that they would also like to be able to attend the NAACP meeting at 7 p.m.,” President Henry Lowe said during the Tuesday night meeting. “We will limit our meetings to one hour so members can attend both meetings.”

The group is planning a preview of the museum for June 22 with the time to be announced closer to the event.

The organization is searching for ideas for fundraising so they may purchase a building to house the museum.

“People tell us what a great idea the museum is,” Lowe said. “People are joining but not attending the meetings.”

Minister Barbara Myles of Samaritan Way Outreach Ministries, 1312 West Orange in Orange, said the museum is something everyone should be proud of.

“This is for the entire community,” Myles said. “It is for the City of Orange.”

The members meet 5:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the City of Orange Neighborhood Facility Building located at 303 North 8th Street in Orange.

The public is invited to attend.
