The Orange Leader
A question posed to commissioners of the Orange Housing Authority recently went unanswered.
Orange City Councilmember Essie Bellfield had asked a question pertaining to the commissioners term lengths. Bellfield’s question received no response and she was told to call the housing authority’s front office during normal business hours.
The Housing Authority of the City of Orange is currently awaiting an appointment of a new commissioner by the Mayor Jimmy Sims.
“I am currently accepting applications,” Sims said. “I have to take into consideration experience and qualifications.”
Commissioners are appointed for two year terms which are normally staggered since the original board would have two members appointed for one-year terms and three commissioners with two-year terms according to Section 392.034 of the Local Government Code Title 12. Planning and Development.
Currently, the four members of the board are serving terms which end October 2014.
A commissioner of a housing authority may not receive compensation for service of a commissioner. They may, however, be reimbursed for necessary expenses incurred in the duties as a commissioner.
