Local church accepting donations for West, Texas

VIDOR — A local church and a partnering organization are doing their part to help their fellow Texans in need.

First Pentecostal Church of Vidor, along with the Vidor Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, are taking donations of items to help those in need in West, Texas, where a fertilizer plant explosed this past week devastating the community and killing several people.

According to Brother Bruce Lockett, pastor of First Pentecostal Church, all items may be brought to to the church, located at 185 Camp Street, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., today through Friday, April 26. A relief convoy will then depart for West, Texas with the donated items.

Lockett said items being requested include personal items, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toilet paper, razors and shaving cream, along with baby items such as disposable diapers, baby food and formula and wipes.

Donations of medical items are also being requested. Items such as bandages, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointments, and cotton balls or swabs. Walkers, crutches and even wheelchairs can be donated.

Canned food goods, along with MRE’s and bottled water are being accepted, but Lockett said clothing, shoes and furniture are not.

Johnson to the audience and described how the illustrator used abstract art in his book. The children, some of whom are shown here, made drawings using abstract art.
