Red and White Tea and Hat show this Sunday

ORANGE — The Senior Gospel Choir of Mount Olive Baptist Church is hosting the 23rd annual Red and White Tea and Hat show this Sunday.

The event will feature the private collection from Marsha Guillory, owner of Marsha G’s Boutique in Orange.

The show orginally featured a boutique in the Houston area that is no longer able to attend the function.

“We decided to ask our local Marsha G’s,” President Sister Sarah Richard said. “It is an opportunity to see the latest hats.”

Marsha Guillory has participated in the show for 19 years.

“It is so much fun,” Guillory said. “Ladies have a new attitude when they have their hats. They enjoy dressing up.”

Guillory also said that animal print hats have been very popular this winter.

Richard has attended every tea and hat show since the conception of the function.

“It is something different to do,” Richard said. “It is a lot of fun. People attend even during bad weather.”

Richard said that approximately 100 people attended the event last year.

Hats, some from as far away as California, are not the only reason to attend according to Richard. The pageant is a fellowship of the community according to Richard.

“It is for the community,” Richard said. “It is to have fun and laugh.”

The Red and White Tea and Hat show is 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday in the Mount Olive Family Life Center located at 106 West Park Ave. in Orange is open to the public. Admission is free.
