Organized Mass Chaos expected to be big hit

WEST ORANGE — Organized and chaos usually do not belong together.

McDonald Memorial Baptist Church, 2015 Sims Street in West Orange is hosting a Community Party, Organized Mass Chaos (OMC), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to kick off Vacation Bible School.

Vacation Bible School is 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. June 17-21. This year’s theme is Colossal Coaster teaching about losing fear and trusting God.

“It is not required to sign up for Vacation Bible School,” Chris Anderson said. “Sign-ups will be available during the OMC.”

The event Saturday will start with a live Hip-Hop concert followed by a game called Organized Mass Chaos.

OMC is designed to be a gridlock mess of fun according to Brandon Swarers, one of the two team captains of the game.

The game consists of two teams and each child on the team is given a card with a task.

“If someone asks for help, you can’t say no,” Swarers said. “Even if they are on the other team.”

The tasks can be as simple as lock arms with another person and Riverdance or a little messier such as putting whipped cream in someone’s hair.

“Some tasks are messy and some are not,” Anderson said. “We suggested wearing play clothes.”

There is a safe zone where the adults assisting with the event should stay clean.

An official Title Belt, designed by OCARC for the event, will be available for the winning team to have their picture taken with.

“They also have bragging rights,” Anderson said.

Swarers said that one event that will change from previous years is the end of VBS.

“The last few years we have made a human ice cream sundae,” Swarers said. “This year we are doing something different and it will be a big surprise.”

Vacation Bible school is for children ages 4 years old up to those who have completed 6th grade.
