Bridge City Christmas parade postponed until Dec. 14

BRIDGE CITY — The threat of inclement weather this weekend has forced organizers to postpone a much anticipated yearly event.

The Fifth Annual Bridge City Chamber of Commerce’s Electric Light Christmas Parade, originally scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, has been delayed one week due to the expected arrival of less than ideal weather conditions. The parade will now be held at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14.

“We thought it was the best thing for all involved,” said Brandy Slaughter of the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce. “The weather is just going to cold, wet and not pleasant, so we decided to postpone it one week.”

William “Bill” Smith will be the Parade Marshal this year, who opened Central Office Supply in Bridge City in 1975.

“We think it will turn out to be a good thing,” Slaughter added. “Orangefield will have its parade that same morning, so maybe our crowd can go to their parade, and then they can all come to ours. It’s best of both worlds for everyone.”

The chamber is still accepting applications for entries into the parade. Contact the chamber office bcchamber@sbcglobal.net, www.BridgeCityChamber.com or at 409-735-5671 for applications or information.

As always, parade organizers will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys which will be given to needy children for Christmas. Donations are being accepted for children ages infant through fifth grade.
