ORANGE — A night of theater, food and fun will benefit a local organization with a tradition of helping those in need.

Southeast Texas Hospice will hold its 24th annual Mystery Dinner Theater event at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 15, and Tuesday, April 16, at St. Mary Parish Hall, 912 W. Cherry in Orange. Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased in advance at the hospice office. Reservations can be made by calling 409-886-0622 or 800-749-3497.

This year’s production is “A Calamitous Night at Sandy Shores” and features the characters Jerry and Joan Dennison, whose “children, thinking politicians and nature lovers plot against each other to either sell, donate or keep the land” at Sandy Shores.

Mary McKenna, director of Southeast Texas Hospice, said this year’s event will pay special tribute to a man who has been such a big part of the organization for many, many years.

“We are going to pay tribute to Bill Leger with our production this year,” McKenna said. “He has helped us raise tens of thousands of dollars over the years. He has been our master of ceremonies numerous times, and he was a board member for several years. We just want to keep it low key and pay tribute to him because he has done so much for us.”

The meal, as it has been the past several years, is being prepared by Chef Terry from Baptist Hospital Orange. The meal consists of Salmon Oscar with crab, shrimp and asparagus, seashore rice, ocean medley vegetables, salad, rolls and tea.

Along with the entertaining performance, there will be plenty of door prizes for guests who help solving the mystery and a silent auction will be held with fabulous items up for bid.

McKenna said reservations are strongly recommended. Guests may call now and pay at the door on the night of the performance.

All proceeds benefit the Southeast Texas Hospice organization as it continues to provide assistance and service to terminal patients and family members.
