WO paves way for new businesses

WEST ORANGE — A lien held by the City of West Orange has been released for property at 2313 MacArthur Drive.

The lien was due to demolition at the property after Hurricane Rita in September 2005. A grant was used for the demolition so the city is not out any funds.

Mark Bland, owner, told the council he plans to house three businesses at the location.

“I have already purchased the building permits,” Bland said during the 5:30 p.m. Monday city council meeting.

The property was purchased through during a tax sale from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in December 2011.

Asher Luis Consignment & Resale Boutique, Simmons Outfitters and BodyWorkz Health Club hope to move to the new location by the end of the year.

The council approved Cody Marshall’s application as a Jr. Firefighter for the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department (WOVFD) as well as Joe Vercher’s application for membership as a firefighter.

The council requested that Nicholas Morreale, applicant for membership of the WOVFD, meet with the council before they make a final decision. There were questions concerning a prior arrest and address. The address listed on the application is a place of business.

“I do not want to hold ones past mistakes against anyone,” Mike Trahan, council member said. “It would help if we could talk with him to get a sense of him.”

Shirley Bonnin, mayor pro-tem, said she would like to know where he resides.

West Orange City Council will next meet 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 22 at the West Orange Community Center located at 2700 Western Avenue.
