Improper storage of raw chicken lowers health scores

ORANGE — LaCantina Mexican Grill located at 2709 MacArthur Drive in Orange, received a 93 out of a possible 100 during a recent health code inspection. The demerits are for storing raw chicken above the ice cream mix in the walk-in cooler and several ‘clean’ dishes with old foods on them. The manager pulled all the dishes to be rewashed.

Other scores include:

• Crawdad’s located at 11845 Hwy. 62 in Mauriceville. Score: 97. Demerits are for mold/slime found inside the ice machine.

• Kwick Stop #1 Valero located at 2000 Texas Avenue in Bridge City. Score: 96. Demerits are for several expired items on the shelves.

• Robert’s Steakhouse located at 3720 West Park Ave. in Orange. Score: 94. Demerits are for several flies throughout, racks inside coolers in need of being cleaned and repaired and ceiling above the dishwasher in need of being cleaned.

• Star Stop #4 Exxon Deli located at 1415 16th Street in Orange. Score: 86. Demerits are for in need of the store name and address on all bags of ice sold, several expired items on the shelves, soap and towels needed at the hand-washing station, and slime found inside the ice machine.

• Gary’s Coffee Shop located at 2045 Texas Avenue in Bridge City. Score: 97. Demerits are for air vents in the kitchen and prep area in need of being cleaned.

• Dollar Plus located at 100500 North Hwy. 87 in Orange. Score: 96. Demerits are for several expired items on the shelves.

• Walmart Grocery #777 located at 3115 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange. Score: 94. Demerits are for several gnats found in the produce area and racks inside the milk cooler in need of being cleaned.

• Walmart Bakery #777 located at 3115 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange. Score: 97. Demerits are for a faucet the 3 compartment sink is in need of repairs.

• French Quarter Bar Grill located at 500 South Street #1000 in Vidor. Score: 96. Demerits are for an employee’s drink found without a lid or straw sitting on the prep table.

• Super Stop #3 located at 2745 Evangeline in Vidor. Score: 92. Demerits are for in need of the store name and address on all bags of ice sold and several expired items on the shelves.
