OCP ‘steps’ into new season with debut performance this month

ORANGE — The Orange Community Players are taking the first step to starting its 2013-2014 season off right.

The Orange Community Players present “The 39 Steps” at 7:37 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 21, and again Thursday, Sept. 26 through Saturday, Sept. 28. A matinee will be presented at 2:37 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults.

“The 39 Steps” is a melodrama, which was adapted from the novel written by John Buchan in 1915 and from the Alfred Hitchcock film made in 1935. The play will feature a cast of four people portraying as many as 140 characters in what is described as a “fast-paced thriller that’s great fun for ages 9 to 90,” according to 39stepsny.com, and requires the cast to make quick changes and even portray multiple characters at one time.

The play is treated as more of a comedy than the film or novel, but it does share the plot and same characters, and it even includes numerous references and musical excerpts from other films by Alfred Hitchcock, which are sure to provide plenty of laughs.

Call 409-882-9137 for reservations or purchase tickets online at www.orangecommunityplayers.com.
