San Antonio man dropping euthanized mules lawsuit

LUBBOCK, Texas — A South Texas atheist has raised religious concerns in dropping his lawsuit over a museum buying two old mules and euthanizing the animals for a farm display.

Patrick Greene of San Antonio on Oct. 2 sued the president of the board of directors of the American Museum of Agriculture in Lubbock.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal on Tuesday reported Greene's motion says he saw references to Christianity in an online biography for Judge Ruben Reyes. Greene says he doesn't believe Reyes could be impartial in the case.

Message left for Reyes and with the museum were not immediately returned Wednesday.

Museum attorneys have said the mules were at least 28 years old, not strong enough for work and faced being sent to Mexico for slaughter if not euthanized for the exhibit.
