AUSTIN — The 33-year-old condemned killer of an East Texas woman is facing execution in Huntsville.
Mario Swain is set for lethal injection Thursday evening for the slaying of 46-year-old Lola Nixon during a break-in at her home in Longview two days after Christmas in 2002.
An unfamiliar truck parked in her neighborhood was tracked back to Swain and he eventually led police to her body dumped in the back seat of an abandoned car in a remote area of Gregg County. She'd been beaten with a tire iron, stabbed and strangled.
Swain's execution would be the 13th this year in Texas. Another two are scheduled for next week.
