Jury in '86 murder case to hear about other death

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Jurors in the case of a man on trial for the 1986 murder of a woman whose husband was wrongfully convicted will hear evidence that links him to a second slaying.

Mark Norwood is charged with the beating death of Christine Morton. Morton's husband, Michael, spent 25 years in prison before DNA testing linked Norwood to the slaying.

Norwood has also been connected by DNA from a hair to the death of Debra Masters Baker two years later. Both women were found in their beds, beaten to death. Prosecutors argue that Baker's death has enough similarities to Morton's to demonstrate a pattern.

Norwood is on trial for Morton's murder in San Angelo.

Michael Morton's case brought widespread attention to DNA testing and wrongful convictions.
