GRANBURY, Texas — A gunman who seriously wounded one law enforcement officer in North Texas was later killed in an exchange of gunfire in which another officer was injured.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says a Hood County sheriff's deputy was shot in the head when he responded to a disturbance call about 10:45 a.m. Friday near Granbury. The deputy is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel says the gunman fled in a white van and drove into downtown Granbury, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Forty-nine-year-old Ricky Don McCommas stopped in the parking lot of Granbury City Hall and opened fire on officers.
A Granbury officer was shot in the arm before McCommas was killed in the exchange.
Authorities initially released the wrong man's name as the suspect.
