HOUSTON — A man has been charged in the 1994 shooting death of his 17-year-old girlfriend at his parents' home in Harris County.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Friday that 36-year-old Christopher Stoernell has been charged with murder in the death of Ruth Majewski.
Deputies say Stoernell, who now lives in Michigan, was charged last week and turned himself in. He's free on $50,000 bond. Court records did not list an attorney. A home phone number for him couldn't be found.
Sgt. Eric Clegg tells the Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1dAxVpN ) witnesses at the time of the shooting said Stoernell was acting recklessly with the .22 caliber pistol before he and Majewski went into a bedroom and a gunshot was heard.
Clegg says Storenell told investigators at the time that Majewski shot herself.
