First UMC offers ‘Wednesday Night Live’ classes to public

ORANGE — The First United Methodist Church of Orange invites everyone to join us on Wednesday nights from Sept. 11 through Nov. 13 for our fall Wednesday Night Live classes. We will gather at 5 p.m. in the Praise Center on the corner of 5th and Elm Streets and enjoy a light meal. The classes will begin at 6pm. Please call the office at 409-886-7466 to register and reserve your materials. Classes include the following:

• Human Trafficking (Sept. 11 – Oct. 9)

Human trafficking is the modern form of slavery. The U.S. Justice Department estimates that 17,500 people are trafficked into the country every year but the true figure could be higher because of the large numbers of undocumented immigrants. About 300,000 children are believed to be currently at risk for sexual exploitation. We will use the UMW’s program – “Not in My Neighborhood” to explore this global problem.

• The Sweet Life (Sept. 11 – Oct. 9)

This class will be for diabetics at any stage and for friends or family of a diabetic and for someone who doesn’t want to become a diabetic. Personalized meal plans will be provided for each class member. Lots of information, questions answered, ideas, etc. We will celebrate life, health and receive real tools to overcome together! The diabetic diet is a normal, healthy diet fit for everyone over the age of 2. There is nothing a diabetic can’t eat. Come see how!

• The Bible (Sept. 11 – Oct. 16)

This is an opportunity to gain new insights into the scriptures. It will be a very informative class that will prosper one’s understanding of how God delivered the Holy Bible through the ages for man’s benefit. The itinerary covers a wide range of topics: When and how man learned to communicate and mark time and history. How the means of writing progressed. Review the various methods initially used to document scripture. How did the canonization proceed to choose the O.T. sacred books. How were scrolls reproduced. Did the process of translating scripture from one language to another induce errors. How do the Catholics and Protestant Bibles differ. Why we have different translations and what purpose do they serve. When the Bible was segregated into books, chapters and verses. What does “all scripture being inspired” mean. What was revealed via the Dead Sea Scrolls? Please bring your Bible, any translation.
