There is only one option available

ORANGE — I visited a Burger King recently to indulge my appetite ein a mini-Whopper burger. Making my way to the order position I was confronted with the infamous sign telling me I had 1024 different options to order my Whopper. One Thousand Two Hundred Twenty Four! Just give me a bun, meat, two pickles and a dash of ketchup, thank you. I used only four of my options. I had 1,220 options left. Do we ever have options! What we eat, where we eat, what we wear, the car we buy, the color(s) we want it to be, etc., etc. We have become so option-conscious that we have grown to feel we have an option for everything. Sometimes, however, in some circumstances, we are confronted with the fact that there is only one option: Take it or leave it. There are no exceptions buried in the fine print. No possibilities of compromise. No negotiating for a better deal. And so it is in matters of one’s relationship with God and Jesus Christ.

For example, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Listen to the Apostle Peter: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts. 4:12). The Apostle John echoes the same words when he writes: “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:11,12).

There is a “No Option” clause in the Bible about who Jesus is and why he came to this earth to be the Redeemer of humanity—you and me. This no-option plan states explicitly: “Thus saith the LORD; behold I set before you the way of life, and the way of death” (Jeremiah 21:8). There is not a third choice. The Lord says, “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day; and a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day” (Deuteronomy 12:26-28).
