Orange County to unite in prayer

ORANGE — Orange County will observe the 16th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer at noon Thursday on the Orange County Courthouse front lawn, 801 W. Division in Orange.

The day also marks the 63rd annual observance of the day with a theme of ‘One Voice, United in Prayer’ based on the Bible verse “So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 15:6.

Commissioners Court proclaimed May 1 as National Day of Prayer during the Monday afternoon meeting.

Vickie Landry, a retired county employee, organized this year’s event. Landry has been the organizer every year and was asked by County Judge Carl Thibodeaux to organize the event even after her retirement two years ago.

President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1988 declaring the first Thursday in the month of May would be the day to observe National Day of Prayer.
