Requests for ‘tin foil’ leads to arrest

ORANGE — A man knocking on doors to ask for ‘tin foil’ in the area of 20th Street and Burton Ave. at approximately 1:45 a.m. Tuesday was arrested by an officer from the Orange Police Department.

The officer stopped the man for not having a headlight on the front of his bicycle at night while enroute to the area concerning the complaints from citizens of a man knocking on the door at that hour.

The officer said in the report that the man, 56, matched the description of a suspect concerning a shoplifting incident earlier in the evening at the 1600 block of 16th Street in Orange.

The man confirmed to the officer that he was the man knocking on the doors according to police reports.

The officer located a half empty bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 siting near the rear tire of the bicycle. The man confirmed it was his and he had been drinking.

The man was arrested for public intoxication.

As the man was walking through booking, a ‘crack pipe’ fell from his shorts onto the floor.

The man was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
