ORANGE — A man calling the non-emergency phone line at the Orange Police Department to report his car stolen was arrested for public intoxication when he arrived at the police station to file the report on Monday.

An officer met with the man, 51, at about 12:45 a.m. Monday in the lobby of the police department in reference to a stolen vehicle.

Dispatch said the man had been calling all night and refused to give a good location for officers to meet him in order to file a report. The man was also told to stop by the police station and refused numerous times according to a police report.

The officer asked the man why he waited so long to report the car stolen to which the man replied he was driving around looking for the vehicle.

The officer asked how much the man had to drink after detecting a strong odor of alcohol on the man.

The man admitted to the officer he had consumed three 16-ounce beers.

The man was arrested for public intoxication.
