Teenager air-lifted to hospital after collision

ORANGE —

A bird flying in the path of a vehicle may have contributed to a one car collision approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday at the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Orange.

The 2009 Chevrolet Impala was traveling northbound when a bird reportedly flew into the path and struck the vehicle according to police reports.

The vehicle crossed the oncoming lane of traffic and entered a ditch on the opposite side of the road.

The car flipped three times upon striking a concrete culvert. The vehicle landed on the roof parallel to the wooded area along the roadside.

The driver, 17, was transported to the hospital by a private vehicle. A passenger, 17, sitting in the rear of the Impala was air-lifted to the Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with a fractured leg. A third person in the vehicle, 17, was not reported as suffering injuries.
