Update on Investigation on body found in Neches River

On Sunday May 5, 2013 at 6:00PM the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a human body found in the Neches River near the Purple Heart Bridge. Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Port of Beaumont Police Department, and officers from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call.
Orange County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Judge Dunn is conducting the death inquiry and ordered an autopsy. The body was transferred to the Jefferson County Forensic Medical Facility where an autopsy was performed. According to Dr. Wayne, Forensic Pathologist the cause and manner of death was not able to be determined at the time of the autopsy due to the decomposed condition of the victim. Dr. Wayne advised that toxicology and other further testing is going to be done to try to determine cause and manner and also to try and determine the identity of the deceased.
Dr. Wayne has contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Judge Dunn to advised that after further testing they have been able to identify the human body located on May 5, 2013 as Desmond Gerard O’Hara, a 35 year old black male, who was reported missing by his family to Beaumont Police Department on February 16, 2013. The cause and manner of death has not been determined as of this date.
