Man assaulted for trying to do the right thing

ORANGE — A man was assaulted at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Arthur Robinson Housing Complex for trying to be a good Samaritan.

The Orange resident discovered a wallet and located the owner to return the property.

The owner accused the man of stealing money from the wallet.

The victim told the owner he did not take any money according to a police report.

The owner struck the man, knocking him down and proceeded to strike him several times while on the ground.

The person then told the Samaritan that he would get his gun and make him return the money.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment by a private vehicle.

A City of Orange police officer met with the victim at Baptist Hospital emergency room.

The officer noted in the report that the man’s eye was swollen shut.

The investigation is ongoing.
