ORANGE — $4k Copper theft reported

Copper was stolen from a vacant residence on Thursday.

The property owner told police he received a call at approximately 11:15 a.m. that a person was removing copper wiring from the 500 block of West Park Ave., Orange, according to a police report.

Officers from Orange Police Department checked the residence for suspects prior to meeting with the owner.

The owner valued the 12-2 and 10-2 wiring and the reinstallation to be in excess of $4,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Truck makes wrong turn

A truck attempting to drive over Union Pacific railroad tracks near Old Hwy. 90 and Womack Road, Orange, had to be pulled off the tracks after the front differential became high-centered on the tracks on Thursday.

The driver originally told the Orange police officer an unknown vehicle ran him off the road causing him to lose control of the white Chevrolet Z71 pick-up truck according to a police report.

Further investigation determined the man intentionally tried to drive over the tracks to cross over to Womack Road.

The driver was cited for no driver’s license, expired inspection sticker and failure to drive in a single marked lane.

Headlight required

Riding a bicycle without a headlight landed one man in jail on Thursday.

Police stopped a man wearing a black jacket riding a bicycle southbound on the sidewalk at approximately 7 p.m. for not having a white light mounted on the front of the bike.

According to the police report, the man told the officer that he had not had a headlight on his bike in thirty years and doesn’t need one now.

The man was arrested for the traffic offense.

The bicycle was impounded for safe keeping.
