BCMS students gather 3,800 cans of food for local organizations

BRIDGE CITY — A canned food drive held recently at a local school exceeded all expectations.

Bridge City Middle School held a canned food drive from Thursday, Nov. 1, through Thursday, Nov. 15, to benefit the Salvation Army of Orange County and the Bridge City-Orangefield Ministerial Alliance.

The goal was to raise 2,500 cans of food, and students surpassed that goal with an amazing 3,810 cans. During the food drive, classes competed to see which could bring the most cans of food. The winners this year are: first place, the band with 1,337 cans; second place, Mr. Fleming’s class with 1,108 cans.

The food drive was led by National Junior Honor Society President Alex Townshend and Student Council President Maddie Thibodeaux. Members of the food drive committee were Zach Dionne, Brianna Cross, Mia Woodruff and Cameron Martin.

National Junior Honor Society members and BCMS Student Council members sponsored each teacher’s room.
