Seventh grader earns math, science medals

ORANGE — West Orange - Stark Middle School seventh grade student Manuel Franklin III earned two medals in the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) Regional Math and Science Competition held at Lamar University. Based on his performance, Franklin also qualified to compete at the TAME State Math and Science Competition to be held at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas in April.

At the regional contest, Franklin placed second in the seventh grade math competition and second in the seventh grade science competition.

He is a member of the TAME Club at West Orange - Stark Middle School. TAME helps prepare Texas students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

About 300 students from across the state will compete in this year's State Meet.

Franklin's math instructor is Steven Singer.
