West Orange-Cove CISD campuses announce events ahead of school

ORANGE — Campuses of the West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District have scheduled orientations and other activities in advance of the start of school on Monday, Aug. 26.

WO-S Elementary

West Orange – Stark Elementary will hold two “Meet the Teacher” events. “Meet the Teacher” for kindergarten, first, and second grade students will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will attend “Meet the Teacher” on Thursday, Aug. 22. Both sessions will be held from 5:30 – 7 p.m.; they will begin in the cafeteria. Following an informational meeting, students and parents can visit classrooms. Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies.

WO-S Middle School

West Orange–Stark Middle School will hold enrollment/registration for new to district students on Tuesday, Aug. 12 and Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students and their parents are invited to attend the West Orange – Stark Middle School Orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. During orientation, students and their parents can tour the building, meet the staff, and receive important start of school information. At 6:30 p.m. during Orientation, all students enrolled in gifted/talented and advanced classes, and their parents, are invited to attend a meeting regarding expectations and guidelines for participation in those courses.

Parents of seventh grade students are also asked to review student vaccination records to make certain that students are up-to-date on all requirements.

WO-S High School

West Orange–Stark High School will hold “Fish Camp” for Freshmen on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. – noon in the main gymnasium. During Fish Camp, students will tour the campus and participate in activities to familiarize themselves with the campus.

Freshman Orientation, for students and their parents, will be held the same afternoon, from 1 – 5 p.m. During Freshmen Orientation, administrators, counselors, and sponsors of various clubs will share information about their programs. During the orientation, students will rotate through various stations. Once all stations have been completed, students may pick up their class schedule.

Sophomore, Junior, and Senior grade level orientations are also scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 14 or Thursday, Aug. 15 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. During the orientation, students will rotate through various stations. Once all stations have been completed, students may pick up their class schedule.

A parent/guardian must attend the High School orientation in order for the pre-registration process to be complete.

North Early Learning Center

Parents of students attending North Early Learning Center can pick up Bus Tags on Thursday, Aug. 22 & Friday, Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. While on campus, parents and their child are invited to tour the building.

    Dr. Jay Killgo, Superintendent of Schools for the Vidor Independent School District, was the guest speaker at the Vidor Friends of the Library meeting this past week. Killgo discussed goals for the upcoming year for Vidor ISD and shared success stories, such as improved test scores and student achievement.
