VHS students win big in Vidor Rotary’s essay contest

VIDOR — For the third year in a row, Vidor Rotary Club has hosted an essay contest based on their “Four-Way Test.” The test includes the principles that Herbert J. Taylor applied to his failing business to save it many, many years ago. The test, which Rotarians around the world recite at either the beginning or end of their meetings, goes like this:

“The Four-Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do: First, is in the truth.

Second, is it fair to all concerned? Third, will it build good will and better friendships? Fourth, will it be beneficial to all concerned?”

Students wrote essays elaborating on those principles and entered Rotary’s contest, which provides cash prizes for winners. The six winners presented their essays and learned which positions they won at a dinner on Thursday, April 25 at Lakewood Estates. The dinner, hosted by Vidor Rotary Club, included family and friends of the students.

Winners and their sponsors were: First place, Kinnedy Mitchell, $500 award from Dr. Eugene Boone; second place, Kaiden Richard, $250 award from Dustbusters; third place, Maegan White, $100 award from Comtex Wireless; honorable mentions, McKenzie Andrus, $25 from Heartbeats of Hope; Catherine Scott, $25 from the Vidor Lions Club; and Jessica Morris, $25 from MidSouth Bank.
